Instrumentation and Measurement Laboratory

The University of Beira Interior (UBI – www.ubi.pt), created in 1973, hosts currently more than 8 thousand students spread across five faculties – Arts and Letters, Sciences, Health Sciences, Social and Human Sciences, Engineering, as well as laboratory and research structures to support the teaching process and with strong links to society and the business world. The Instrumentation and Measurement Laboratory (IML – www.iml.ubi.pt) integrates the Electromechanical Department (DEM), one of the five Department of the Engineering Faculty of UBI.

Services

The CoE is organized inside the IML and share human, material and spaces resources. The members of this laboratory are also active members of the IEEE-IES Standardization Committee. This laboratory is contributing to the definition of the IEEE 1451 family of standards, especially promoting IEEEP1451.002 working group activities.

Test/Verification

This CoE is focused on the IEEE 1451 standard. Devices, or transducer nodes, with energy restrictions mostly because battery or an energy harvesting mechanism powers the device receive from this CoE special attention.

The CoE can offer an experimental setup, observing different configurations, with the required characteristics to integrate the device under test and evaluate its behaviour.
